It’s “All That Jazz” to the Max! Tony nominee for An American in Paris Max von Essen and Broadway veteran Max Clayton recently joined the long-running revival of Chicago. Von Essen plays the suave and sweet-talking lawyer Billy Flynn, while Clayton portrays Roxie Hart’s lover Fred Casely. NY1 News entertainment journalist Frank DiLella recently caught up with the pair right before Chicago’s 27th Anniversary on Broadway, which took place on Tuesday, November 14.

Chicago is welcoming Max Clayton to the cast. Clayton will take over the role of Fred Casely beginning on November 6 at the Ambassador Theatre. He will replace Marty Lawson, who will become a swing on the production. Clayton will step in at the same performance as the recently announced Max von Essen, who will take on the role of Billy Flynn.

Chicago on Broadway will welcome Max von Essen as Billy Flynn beginning Monday, November 6, at the Ambassador Theatre. This will be von Essen’s first run in Chicago on Broadway; he previously played the role of Mary Sunshine on tour.

Lili Thomas will join the company of Chicago in the role of Matron “Mama” Morton on September 11. In addition to making her Broadway debut, Thomas will become the first Asian-American actor to play the role on the Main Stem. Thomas will assume the role from Jennifer Fouché.

The Museum of Broadway has officially unveiled their newest exhibit, All That Jazz: The Legacy of Chicago the Musical, highlighting the long-running Broadway revival.
